Sjaak Kaashoek (1961, Sliedrecht) is a Dutch painter and printmaker. He makes paintings of church interiors, cityscapes, still lifes and landscapes. In his style, he is inspired by Renaissance art and 17th century Dutch masters. He gets his inspiration from nature, environment, science and mythology.
Especially for this exhibition, he has painted the subject of books. “Russian culture is very rich, but I admire especially the Russian writers like Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and Chekhov and poetry of Anna Akhmatova. So I made a sort of meal of books.”
Sjaak Kaashoek lives and works in Nijmegen as a professional artist.
