Ans Markus born on the 29th of january 1947 in the Netherlands, already manifested great artistic skills in het early teens. The oldest drawing that has been preserved dates from 1962.
Markus is an autodidact, but did gain a lot of knowledge about human anatomy through a drawing course during 8 years.
At age twenty she fell pregnant and married, for eleven years Markus was locked in an unhappy marriage, she was a victim of domestic violence and degrades by her husband as well.
Introvert by nature this made the young woman even more insecure. She lost her sense of self-esteem, that is why she painted her daughter bounded in bandages.
These paintings with the bandages brought her widespread admiration and fame. She was the artist of the year in 2009-2010 and brilliant artist of the year in 2014.
She created a remarkable series about the Greek myth, a serie about silent rooms, tributes to modern classics, and a lot of portraits, among them: Princess Beatrix, Queen Maxima en King Willem Alexander. Markus gives workshops, designed jewellery and has taken an old passion of her: sculpting. But as diverse as her activities may be, what keeps running as a thread through it all is her ongoing interest and involvement in the inner world of people.
For this exhibition she painted an eye as the mirror of the soul.
